Meet the newest addition to the studio — our DIY paper hanger! For the longest time, I’ve been wrestling with a basket full of rolled up paper that I use for projects or photo backdrops. The basket looked fine but every time I wanted to work with a sheet of paper, it would be too stuck in a rolled shape to make it work. (In fact, I literally had to roll all of these papers in reverse for a week and blow them with hot air from my hairdryer to get them to lay flat. Bahaha!) I really wanted a place to have the paper all laid out but couldn’t think of where. And then DUH it hit me — set it up like a paper shop! So we did. It’s super simple, here’s how.

Materials

Make Time: 30 Minutes

Step 1: Decide how many rungs you’d like on the paper hanger, and how tall you’d like the sides to be. Cut two pieces of the square board to the height that you’d like the hanger. If you don’t have a saw, you can ask them to make the cuts at your local hardware store. Once you’ve decided on how many rungs, spread them evenly on the square boards. Measure the distance that you’ll need between each, and make marks on both boards where you’ll need the holes for the dowels to slide through.

Step 2: Drill a 3/4″ hole on each mark. This is super easy with a drill press, if you have access to one. If not, use a 3/4″ drill bit and clamp the wood boards down as you drill.

Step 3: Slide the dowels through the holes so that a ladder shape is formed. Arrange the wood so that the dowels are sticking out an even amount on either side of the wood boards, measuring to be sure. Behind each dowel, insert a screw through the wood square and into the dowel. This will keep the dowels in place on either side.

Step 4: To hang you can do a few things. You can just screw it right into the wall, or you can attach a flat hook on the back of each side rail and hang those on nails.

I’m so pumped on this one! It means I’ll have so much more access to my supplies and it’ll save me a million headaches. It also makes for some pretty organization on the wall! You could also do this with wrapping paper rolls and just not secure the dowels with the screws, so that they can slide in and out to load new rolls. Make it extra tall to store lots of rolls! xoxo
